Knowledge is power, so the saying goes. There is no place where this saying is taken more to heart than at COSON House, the headquarters of Africa’s fastest growing copyright collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings. For an entire week of April 15 to April 21, 2018, practically everyone at COSON was in one class room or another within the COSON House edifice receiving training. Foreign experts had been flown into the country to sharpen, train and retrain not just the operatives but the members of the COSON Board so that the organization continues to operate on the cutting edge of modern trends in collective management.
During the period also, installation of new professional royalty distribution software began at COSON House with Mr. Roy Mutungi, the Kenyan born software expert, who spent several days with officers in the COSON Datatech and Documentation departments to ensure that men and machine were in tune and that COSON members and affiliates derive benefit from the upgrading of the tools and operational environment.
Leading the experts who came to Nigeria for the training sessions was Mr. Robert Hooijer, former DG of CISAC, the Internal Confederation of Authors Societies of which all collective management organizations across the world are members.
Mr. Hooijer, an accountant and guru in collective management, spent several hours on Saturday, April 21, locked in with members of the COSON Board as diverse issues related to governance, leadership, planning, financial and risk management, etc., were intensely discussed. Participants in the training session included COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji; General Manager, Mr. Chinedu Chukwuji; Head of Finance & Administration, Ms. Bernice Eriemeghe and several board members from across the country.
After the training, a member of the COSON Board, Ms. Kenny Saint Brown, popularly known as KSB, said, “it was a wonderful session, very uplifting and revealing. We spent time with the best brain in the business to make sure that every decision we make on behalf of the members of COSON is on point. Take it from me, COSON is working”.
